Of all the things you’ve said and done
This is the one you didn’t plan
The pain it carried lashed our hearts
It crashed our souls to tiny parts.
We’ve doubted you if you’re a fake
But you’re the only chance we have to take
And so for years we carried you
Even if it made us blue.
Sometimes we’re glad when you’re around
Reminding us that we should be proud
Of ourselves and of our feats
Of the truth beyond the myths.
But not until you’ve lied to us,
We realized you’re like our past:
Once we’ve reached the cabin of joy,
Quickly you’ll leave, the cabin destroyed.
We get by and live through this elegy
Where all our sweetest words morphed to profanity
And amid all the things you’ve said and done,
We still lie to ourselves that everything’s unplanned.
